Who?

ASUCD, Student Affairs, and all UCs have pushed for a more holistic approach to helping students, by realizing that in order to do well academically, athletically, or in any aspect of life there are some requirements to be met.

What?

Basic needs refer to the idea that humans need some fundamental resources required to be able to live. These resources include access to food and clean water, consistent housing, along with emotional and physical wellness, all of which are made easier through financial stability.

When? Where?

Basic Needs is a relatively new movement by colleges which looks to take all aspects of a student's life into account.

Where?

UC Davis is one of the first universities which is pushing for this basic needs movement, but all of the UC campuses are now striving to make sure their students' basic needs are met by 2025.

Why?

There are many people who are struggling with one or all of these four issues that we have outlined which together make up basic needs. Students already have a lot to deal with, such as difficult courses, graduating on time, club or volunteer responsibilities, and not to mention other duties outside of college like families, relationships, and jobs. They should not have to worry about where their next meal comes from, or if they have a safe place to stay for the night.
